"My sympathies to Sandy and Stephanie for the loss of your mom, Kathryn, Kristina and Elise for the loss of your YiaYia, and the rest of the Alexiou family and friends. I met Katherine in 1979, when Sandy and I were heading to graduate school at UVA. She was a very smart woman, with a quick wit, a firm command of her life, a productive attitude and a twinkle in her eye. As a successful career woman a generation ahead of when more women started entering the work force, she was an inspiration to Sandy, me and so many other young women to pursue their dream careers. From the stories Sandy shared of growing up with her mom until her late 80s when she ran away from the nursing home with the new guy, Katherine kept her feisty spirit and twinkle in her eye throughout her life. The best tribute I can leave here is that Katherine reminded me of my mom in so many ways. She will be sorely missed. Leslie Bayliff"
