Tribute & Message From The Family

Brent J. Riach, 68, of Salem, NH, beloved husband of Susan M. (Booth) Riach, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, on December 23, 2016 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, MA, surrounded by those he loved.

Born in Hardwick, VT, he was the son of the late George and Vivian (Villeneuve) Riach. He grew up in Littleton, NH, attended Littleton Schools, graduated Littleton High School Class of 1966, and attended The University of NH. He began a lifelong career in shoemaking with Connors and Hoffman Shoe Company, in Littleton, NH, moving on to Hyde Athletic Industries, and ending that career upon his retirement in 2015, after working for New Balance Athletic Footwear, where his heart and soul resided for 35 years. He loved making shoes and was a loyal mentor and friend to may of his co-workers and highly respected and admired throughout the industry. He was lovingly known as “Uncle” by his co-workers, and “Big Dog” by his many friends. His wit and sense of humor are legendary.

Brent was an avid golfer. He and his wife enjoyed working in their yard, sitting by the pool with family and friends, and taking many trips to the wine country in both California and the Finger Lakes Region of New York State.

He leaves his wife of 37 years, Susan Riach of Salem; two daughters, Kendra Strout and her husband, Frank Strout of Munroe, NH, and Kristyn Riach Mueller of Littleton, NH. He is also survived by his four grandsons, Joshua Riach, Jeffrey Riach, Frankie Strout and Brett Strout, and several nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss him dearly. He is survived by his twin brother, Kent S. Riach of N. Haverhill, NH, whom he cherished and adored; as well as his sister-in-law, Shelley Jolicoeur, and her husband, Ken of Deerfield, NH.

He was predeceased by his sister, Candy Beard of Merrimack, NH.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Dana-Farber Community Cancer Care at Holy Family Hospital, in Methuen, MA, and Merrimack Valley Hospice House for their devoted and loving care.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cate and Johnson Funeral Home, in Manchester, NH. To send a message of condolence, please visit their website at www.catejohnson.com. May the Road rise to meet you. May the winds be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. The rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

I'm in awe of all the love that was shown to Brent and Susan while Brent was sick. Brent was truly a loved and respected man. From the USA to China he was know as Uncle Brent. He knew more about shoes than the people who wore them. You will be forever missed and never forgotten. I got SQ Brent.. don't worry.. you take care of Mrs. Blakley.. I'll take care of SQ.

Love you BR...

Sheldon

Kendra And Kristyn, I am so sorry for your loss. It is hard to loose a parent. It is so hard to loose them to a disease that they have to fight as you know. I am thinking of you all and you as well Susan even if our paths have never crossed. Just know he is no longer suffering and he is watching over all of you still. Love Rachel a old friend.
