Goffstown, NH. George J. Hubert, 82 of Violet Street, Goffstown, formerly of 84 Branch Turnpike, Concord, NH, died June 27, 2017 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH after a long illness.

He was born in Cohoes, NY, the son of Shirley (Ellrott) Hubert and George Hourigan. He attended schools in New York, graduating from Brooklyn Prep in 1953.

He enlisted in the Army in 1955 and saw service in Newfoundland and Greenland. He became a member of the US Army Reserve in 1957 and retired from the Army Reserve in 1995. He received the Meritorious Service Award, among others. George was a Supply Management Officer while working for the US Army for over 25 years retiring in 1997. He later worked at Hammar Industrial Supply, in Nashua and Jefferson Pilot Financial, in Concord as an Underwriting Senior Administrator.

He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Kearsarge Lodge 23, in Contoocook, NH and Granite Lodge 1, in Nashua, NH. He served as Noble Grand, Treasurer and Secretary while in the lodges and was District Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of New Hampshire for several years. He was a member of the Three Links Visual Recourse, Inc, (formerly the New Hampshire Eye Bank) for many years, serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors. He was appointed a Director Emeritus in 1997.

At the age of 80, George became involved with the Volusia County Special Olympics. He coached the soccer and basketball teams. The Volusia County soccer teams won first place in 2015 and 2016 for the county and were invited to the Disney ESPN Sports Complex to compete in the Florida state competition where the soccer team won first and second place, respectively.

He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, The Bow Community Men's Club, the Bow Young at Heart Club, and the Sunset Club in Concord.

George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Irene (Gagnon) Hubert, three daughters, Diane (Hubert) Laramie of Pembroke, Marilyn (LeBrun) Barbuito of Deltona, FL, and Janice (Barry) Washer of Goffstown, four grandsons, five granddaughters, nine great grandchildren, his sister, Maureen Urquhart of Clifton Park, NY and a brother, Ralph Hubert, of Delanson, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm at Phaneuf Funeral Home, 172 King Street, Boscawen, NH 03303.
Thursday, July 6, 2017, a Christian Service will be held at 10:30 am at the Phaneuf Funeral Home in Boscawen, to be followed by a full military burial at the NH State Veterans Cemetery at 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH 03303.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be mailed to: Special Olympics of Florida, 1915 Wickham Drive, Clermont, FL 34711-1915. Checks should be made payable to "Special Olympics of Volusia County", with a notation of "In Memory of George J. Hubert".

I consider myself incredibly privileged to have known George and become part of your family. He was one of the few truly wonderful, kind-hearted, and genuine men I have had the opportunity to know in my lifetime. His legacy of love and laughter will live on in our hearts. We love you, George.
