Tribute & Message From The Family

George C. Tonas, 86, of Manchester, NH, died on June 23, 2015 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester.

A native and lifelong resident of Manchester, he was the son of the late Costas A. & Regina (Aubertin) Tonas. George served in the Army from 1951-1953 with the 518 Combat Engineers during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Anchor Electric for 36 years until his retirement. George was known as the prankster around Anchor. There wasn’t a person George didn’t pull a practical joke on.

Mr. Tonas was a devoted member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church since childhood and has served the church in various capacities, including on the parish council board from 1993-1996. He was awarded the Diocese of Boston Laity Award in 1995. He devoted countless hours helping at the Greek Festival every year and where ever he was needed. He was a member of the NOA Club and the Fourka Society.

George was an avid local sports enthusiast, attending games at Gill Stadium almost nightly. He could be seen sitting behind home plate cheering all teams on, no matter who was playing. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather great grandfather, and lifelong friend to many.

Predeceased by his wife Josephine (Brewer) Tonas, he is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Costas L. and Sharon J. (Hull) Tonas of Fremont, NH, George A. & Jeanne M. (Auger) Tonas of Manchester, NH and his son James W.
