Marion B. Erskine, 98, of Manchester, NH, passed away January 30, 2016 at The Manor At Birch Hill Terrace.

Marion was born September 12, 1917 in Manchester, NH, a daughter of Witalius & Alice (Wilcomb) Backer. She was a graduate of Manchester Central High School as well as Hesser College and was alifelong resident of this community.

Prior to retirement, Marion was employed with Manchester Credit Bureau for many years.

Marion was a longtime active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, having been a member since the age of 12. She was also very active with the Daughters of Scotia as well as the Salvation Army Womens Auxiliary.

Marion was pre-deceased by her husband, Harold G. Erskine.

Family includes three children, C. Richard Erskine and his wife, Kathy, Bruce Erskine and his wife, Helen and Jane McCoy and her husband, Brian; six grandchildren, Kate Erskine, Greg Erskine, Michael Erskine, Mark Erskine, Tim McCoy and Ryan McCoy; four great-grandchildren, Cora Erskine-McWhirter, Margo Erskine-McWhirter, Thomas Erskine and Lucy McCoy; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cate & Johnson Funeral Home, 573 Pine Street, corner of Harrison Street in Manchester.

Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, corner of Smyth and Bruce Roads in Manchester. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Birch Hill Terrace – Benevolent Fund, 200 Alliance Way, Manchester, NH, 03102 and/or Visiting Nurses Association of Manchester, 1070 Holt Ave., Manchester, NH, 03109.

It is always difficult to say good-bye to loved one, without the shedding of tears. I pray that God will comfort you, heart, soul and spirit in the coming days and give peace to each and every family member. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

We are so sorry for your loss. There are so many fond memories of Marion coming to Vermont for Fake Thanksgiving. I still recall her Little Red Riding Hood costurme for the trick or treat at the Lodge. Love Sandy and Dave

You are fortunate Marion lived a long and blessed life.  I was  happy to have seen her and her family a few years ago at an outing.  She was such a dear lady.

THE ERSKINE FAMILY, WE OFFER OUR CONDOLENCES AND PRAYERS TO ALL OF YOU. AUNT MARION WAS AN OUTSTANDING PERSON WITH LOTS OF FAITH. I THINK BACK TO THE TIMES MY FAMILY MADE THE TRIP UP TO NEW HAMPSHIRE AND THE TIMES YOU ALL CAME TO CONNECTICUT. VERY GOOD TIMES. THE ERSKINE FAMILY HAD A LOT OF FAITH SO AUNT MARION HIS HOME WITH ALL OF THEM. PRESENTLY MARCIA AND I IN FLORIDA.

Dear Jane and Family,



I am so saddened with the passing of your Mom.  Mrs. Erskine was always a person who was so full of kindness, sweetness  passion and love for everything and everyone.  I am grateful to of known this kind lady throughout my grammar school years.  She will be deeply missed.  I and all of her family and friends, I am certain, are so grateful that she lived a long and happy life with her dear family and friends always in each others' hearts.
