H. Joseph "Joe" Champagne, Jr., 62, of Gilmanton, passed away at Concord Hospital on February 16, 2018.

He was born in Manchester on January 13, 1956, the son of Henry Joseph and Barbara (Jutras) Champagne, Sr. Joe co-owned and operated Jutras Signs for several years until his retirement. He was an avid gun collector and recreational shooter. Joe loved history and especially enjoyed talking about the history of Manchester. He also liked all things associated with aviation, and enjoyed working outdoors. He was a proud and loving grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Family members include his daughter, Jillian Nicholls and her husband Mackenzie of Pembroke; Cathy Champagne of Bedford, his beloved former wife of 17 years, with whom he shared a devoted relationship until his death; his granddaughter, Madeline Nicholls; a brother, David Champagne of Hooksett; two sisters, Debra Buckingham of Concord and Donna Fostier of Auburn; as well as nephews, nieces, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, Joe's family request that memorial gifts be made to the Animal Rescue League of NH, 545 Route 101, Bedford NH 03110, http://www.rescueleague.org/donatenow.

A private graveside service is scheduled for later this spring. Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium is in charge of arrangements. To view Joe's online Tribute, send condolences to the family, or for more information, visit www.phaneuf.net.

Cathy, Jillian, Mackenzie, and Maddie,
I know it's been a long hard road. You will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. I have some good memories of Joe from over the years. I know he will be missed. I pray your hearts will heal and memories of the good times spent together will linger on longer than the sadness. Again you'll be in my prayers.
