Hi Melissa,
So sorry for your loss!
Was surprised to hear the news as it seemed he would outlive me based on diagnosis, as he mentioned when we last saw you.
A number of us would like to send you cards, though no one has your address...
Much love and many blessings,
Bill Glasgow McDonald (bill@openpassage.com)

Ty was one of the best submarine officers that I ever encountered while on the USS LaJolla. I met Ty in January 1982. I had reported to the LaJolla and needed a place to stay. Ty immediately offered me a room at his home in Groton Connecticut. He was helpful, kind, and of course entrepreneurial (charged me rent of course!) but it really helped me out. His sense of humor was right on target, never mean but always hilarious. I kept in touch with Ty on Facebook the last several years and his passion for many areas of life was always apparent. I'm sad he is gone but glad he left such a special legacy. Steve Wilson

Missy and Glasgow family,
It is clear to this fellow 9th Company and '78 classmate that Ty was a profoundly loved husband, father and friend; an outstanding naval officer; an immensely successful business man; an admired and revered leader; and a respected and valued mentor. His passing after a long and courageous battle against blood cancer (unknown to many of us until just a few short weeks ago) leaves such a painful hole in all of our respective lives. We rightfully mourn, but may we also celebrate the extraordinary life he led, the amazing family he raised and the many lives he touched, and take comfort knowing that Ty is no longer suffering, but smiling and basking in the glow of yet another Red Sox world championship.

how lucky for me to have been friends with ty at 14, ty, alan, me, sometimes tom, setting off on our bikes to what were then undiscovered parts of the oakland hills, miles from home. My parents loved ty, he was gentle, kind, and quirky and we were rambunctious hooligans always finding trouble, ty would go with us on waterski trips and was part of my extended family. i high school we didnt see much of each other, ty focused on sports and rotc with a singular mission to get into the USNA. it wasnt till maybe 6 years ago through facebook that we reconnected and when we got together after close to 40 years, it seemed like just yesterday. steak(and martini)dinners in new york, showing off my pic commanding a sub down 3 degrees bubble(a two day trip arranged by political friend) a sox game at fenway , constant touch on facebook including discussing our politcal differences and trip to maine where i got meet is amazing bride and trip that we titled, maine on 5000 calories a day. the term "Great Man" is used freely and often without its true meaning. Ty was a great man, a caring friend, put his life at considerable risk in defending our country, not for glory , fame or opportunity, but because its what he felt was right, A devoted husband and extraordinary dad. i fear we will never know his likes again. how lucky for all to have had him in their lives and how blessed i was. All ahead full Lieutenant.

Ty was a good friend from Epsilon and I'm so sorry for this tragic loss. He and I started within a few weeks of one another and quickly became friends. We always shared stories about family and what our kids were up to; Ty was a great storyteller, who loved the outdoors and seemingly any adventure. He often spoke of his kayaking outings during the summer mos. The last time I spoke to him was after his trip on the Zephyr Express from San Fran to Chicago; he sent me a bunch of photos and was truly thrilled to have made that trip. He was a man of great integrity and exceptional character, very rare -someone who you could trust to do anything for you. I can't believe he's gone and I will miss him.

Although I was a member of the Class of 1978 (14th Company) I did not know Ty personally but offer my condolences to all family and friends of Ty. Every time I read of the passing of a classmate, friend, and/or loved one, I am reminded that LIFE is a gift from God and that we should all strive to make it count, wherever we find ourselves. We all make a living by what we do, but make a life by what we give. WE all have something to give in this journey we call life. May God help us all find our "gift" and share it with those that God sends our way: family, friends, and strangers alike!

We are so saddened to learn of Ty's passing. During our years together while living in Bedford, as we raised our children together, enjoyed family outings and shared good times, Ty was always such a great person. He set such fine examples as a dad, husband, friend and community member. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Melissa, and your children during this difficult time. Your memories of Ty's life and the joy he brought all will comfort you as he remains in your hearts forever.
