Tribute & Message From The Family

Robert H. Deveault, 95 passed away in the loving arms of his daughter on Tuesday October 15, 2019. He did not get his wish to "wake up dead" but he passed suddenly and peacefully. Whether you knew him as Speed, Frenchy or Bob, everyone knows him for his animated stories and his ability to talk on and on and on. He laughed at his own jokes even when no one else understood. He lived life to the fullest and was a kind, gentle and loving soul without a mean bone in his body. He was stubborn –once his mind was made up there was no changing it. He married his childhood sweetheart Violet (Goulet) Deveault and navigated the tides of life with her for 72 years.

He served in the United States Army as a PFC paratrooper with Company I, 511th Parachute Infantry during WWII and would tell his story of playing the harmonica on his descent to lighten the burden he carried from serving in the war before his honorable discharge as a disabled veteran. He and his wife played golf well into their 80's and very few people could beat him at cribbage or chess.

He is survived by his wife Violet Deveault, his children Sandra E. Martel and her husband Scott, Edward Deveault and his wife Christy, his grandchildren Jacob Watson, Steven Watson, Kristin Amarant, Gregory Deveault as well as his great-grandchildren Carolyn Amarant, Alexandra Amarant and Penelope Amarant. He is predeceased by his daughter Sandra J. Deveault.

Calling hours for Robert will be held on Sunday, October 20th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Phaneuf Funeral Homes, 243 Hanover St. Manchester, NH. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 21st at 12:00 PM at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, 172 Belmont St. Manchester NH. Robert will be interred at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH immediately afterwards at 2:00 PM.

Condolence & Memory Journal

Uncle Speed, you were my Godfather and Aunt Violet my Godmother. I have many warm and loving memories of both of you, and fortunate to know you both while I was growing up. You and aunt Violet always found the time to visit on Thanksgiving and especially at the Christmas parties my mom and dad home. You brought smiles and happiness, laughter and love to everyone without any expectations of anything in return, and that is indeed a rare gift in this world. I wish people of the world were more like you. You always were and are the best uncle anyone could ever hope for. I love you and will miss you dearly.

We had the honor of knowing this remarkable man and the privilege of hearing his many stories, jokes, playing the harmonica and playing golf with him on numerous occasions. He was a welcomed additional to our annual July 4th golf outing. We could always count on him for a laugh, because he was never at a loss for words or stories. He will be missed by many. Deepest condolences, to Ed and family, Sandy and family, and to Vi. With Love and Hugs, Brenda and Ed Bisson
