Tribute & Message From The Family

Loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother

Barbara (Page) St. George passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Mount Carmel Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Manchester, NH. She was the beloved wife of Ralph E. St. George (USAF CMSgt, retired), who passed on March 26, 2003.

Born in Springfield, MA on 1933, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Jeanne (Laramee) Page. She was a 1951 graduate of Brookline High School and attended Chandler Secretarial School for Women in Boston.

In 1954 she married Ralph, accompanying him on his military assignments during his 24 years of service in New York, Germany, France, Massachusetts, Italy and Florida. While stationed at Rome, NY, Barbara entered civil service. She worked as a stenographer for five years until Ralph was transferred overseas to Europe, continuing as a stenographer at the bases he served.

Upon her husband's military retirement, Barbara entered the newspaper publishing field as a typesetter in California and later at the Falmouth Enterprise in Falmouth, MA. Finally, she worked as the administrative assistant to the editor of the Old Colony Memorial Newspaper in Plymouth, MA where she remained for 12 years until her retirement.

In retirement, Barbara was able to fulfill a desire to volunteer, first as a Meals-on-Wheels driver for Elder Services of Cape Cod and driving those without transportation to medical appointments for the Sandwich Council on Aging. She then served as a volunteer for Beacon Hospice, often gaining as much reward for herself as she hoped she gave to her patients. She often said volunteering for hospice was an experience unto its own.

Barbara is survived by her son, Clifford St. George and his wife, Robin of Bow, NH, and daughter, Julia St. George and her husband, Mark Merchant of Pacifica, CA. She also leaves her beautiful grandchildren, Samantha, Jason, Jessica, and great-granddaughter, Addilyn.

Visiting hours are omitted per Barbara's request. A funeral Mass will take place in the Chapel at Mount Carmel, 235 Myrtle Street, Manchester, on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 11:00 am. Internment will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA, where Barbara's ashes will be placed next to her beloved husband at a date to be determined in the future.
