Tribute & Message From The Family

Melissa Tuttle Glasgow, 60, of New Harbor, ME passed away peacefully at her residence on February 10, 2020. She joins the love of her life, Ty, who passed away in October 2018.

She was born in Dover, NH on February 28, 1959, the daughter of Clarence and Eleanor (Philpott) Tuttle which began a lifelong love affair with all things New England. Melissa graduated from the University of New Hampshire and was filled with pride when her son followed in her footsteps. She worked as a Volunteer Engagement Manager at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. She loved her job, the people she worked with, and most of all sharing the Gardens with friends and family.

Melissa loved to bake, evident by her car's license plate 'Sweet Tooth', and the thousands of delicious treats she baked for anyone in her orbit. Melissa loved sports, never missing one of her son's UNH Football games from Louisiana to Durham. Melissa loved watching her daughters perform for the youth theatre company in Bedford. She loved the outdoors in the fall, especially hiking with her Husband Ty. She loved to travel with her family and learn new things, recently visiting the German Alps with her children. Most of all, Melissa loved talking with others whether they were friends or just someone who looked like they needed to talk. She always said to find the good in everyone.

Family members include two daughters, Heather Glasgow and her fiancé Dereck Knight of Boston, MA and Bridget Glasgow of Portsmouth, NH; a son, Ryan Glasgow of Germany; her sister, Tricia DeWeese and her brother-in-law Jeffrey DeWeese II of Fairfax, VA; her niece Amanda Stacy of Columbus, OH; her nephew Jeffrey DeWeese III of Denver, CO and Sister in Law Shelly Glasgow of Berkeley, California.

A memorial gathering will be held at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St, Manchester, NH on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 10:00 in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Bedford, NH.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, PO Box 234, Boothbay, Me 04537 or on-line at

I am so sad to hear the news about Missy. She was a great friend, neighbor, and classmate, with a bright smile all the time. I remember walking along the beach looking up and she'd be out on the front lawn and she would holler down to me what are you up to today?, knowing that I was up to no good! Rest In Peace.

Dear Bridget, Ryan, Heather and Derek, I am truly so very sorry to hear of Melissa's passing. I have never had the pleasure of meeting your Mom. However, my daughter Bridget worked with your Mom at CMBG. Bridget truly enjoyed your Mom's company and counted her as a dear friend from working at the gardens. It made my heart happy hearing my daughter recollections of time spent with your Mom and the fun they had. Your Mom sounds like such an amazing and dynamic woman who was treasured and respected by all who knew her. Your written tribute of her life is so lovely. May the grace of knowing your parents are together in their eternal home give you all some peace. Our family is keeping your family in our prayers.

Melissa was a beautiful person both inside and out. She lit up anyplace she was because she was full of light and love. She was a doer whether getting football moms organized, starting a book club, raising money for breast cancer research, or just getting her friends together for the pleasure of being together. Anyone who had the privilege to know her had their lives enriched. We will miss her. Our hearts go out to you.

We are so very sad. Melissa always had time for a friend. Years living distance apart did not matter. She made me laugh so hard I cried. We were new moms just bumbling along, living in RI away from our own Mothers. I will always remember that special time and our most recent reconnect. She was a very special person. May all your memories bring you comfort and peace in the days ahead.
