He became a Master Mason in 1959 and was a devoted member of the Grand Lodge of New Hampshire for more than 60 years. A lifelong resident of the North Country, he was active in Burns Lodge No. 66 and on the Board of Directors for North Country Home Health in Littleton and the Littleton Cemetery Association. He dedicated much time to passing on his knowledge of electricity as he taught many students in the electrical apprentice program as an instructor for the NH Department of Education from 1989 through 2004. After moving to Sugar Hill, NH in 2001, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sugar Hill Historical Museum.

John is survived by his wife, Katharine Holman Bigelow (Sugar Hill, NH), daughter Ann Bigelow Weil (West Lafayette, IN), sons William E. Bigelow (Lebanon, NH) and Sam P.
