Condolence & Memory Journal

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Oppenheimer's passing. I am the mayor of Montgomery Township, New Jersey and some of the harassment I have faced as a Muslim and South Asian woman was discussed in our local newspaper, The Montgomery News. Mr. Oppenheimer sent in a beautiful letter to the editor that read > Words cannot really express how supported I felt reading these words. As the year draws to a close, I wanted to reach out to him and thank him for his sustaining message and I am so sad I was never able to tell him how much they meant to me. My condolences to all who loved him. He was clearly a man who touched many lives.

Dear Ellen
I know we only knew each other for a short while in the Hannah Dustin unit at the Veterans Home but I so enjoyed our visits over the past year. My Dad is Phil Shepard and my name is Ginny his daughter. If you recall he was moved to Highland Hall the end of January 2020.The last time we saw each other you were sitting on the bench at the entranceway waiting for your daughter to come and pick you up. I just wanted to convey my deepest sympathy to you and your family Ellen after learning of Marty's passing. You were dedicated and a warm loving wife to Marty. Always will remember the little chocolates you would pass out to all. May he rest in peace.

To Ellen & Family...I was very saddened to learn of Marty's passing. He was a good man of strong principle. While sometimes of differing opinions one had to respect his passion & all of us at Hadley Village Condominiums who knew him sincerely appreciated his dedication, service & efforts to better the Village for all. We both shared our common heritage as emigres from Germany, serving in the military police & as former call fire fighters - all bonds that are hard to break. Marty lived a very fulfilling live & I pray that happy memories of good times past help assuage your grief at this difficult time.
