Tribute & Message From The Family

Nora St. Gelais, 76, died 12/11/20 at Pleasant View Nursing Home after a lengthy, but non-COVID related illness.

She was born in Portland, Maine on June 2, 1944, the daughter of Neva Foss and Leo Gonthier. She grew up in Whitefield and graduated from Whitefield High School. She then moved to Manchester NH where she met and married her husband, Richard St. Gelais in 1968 who predeceased her in 2004. Nora was a long-time member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Manchester and most recently a member of St. Mathews Episcopal Church in Concord. She was a member of the Mystery Rebekah Lodge #39 in Goffstown, NH. Nora worked for many years as a CNA at various nursing homes in Manchester and Bedford.

Nora liked to take summer vacations in Whitefield where she would spend time with her extended family and high school friends. She really enjoyed her trips to Switzerland and the Grand Canyon. She liked quilting, puzzles, spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She leaves three sons, Mark St. Gelais and his wife Tammy of Strafford, NH, Matthew St. Gelais and his wife Liz of Arlington, WA and Richard St. Gelais and partner Sabrina Antle of Henniker, NH. Six grandchildren, Nathan Leclair, Eric Rasmussen, Sheldon St. Gelais, Devin St. Gelais, Tyler St. Gelais and Alexis St. Gelais, one great grandson and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband of 36 years Richard St. Gelais, sister Margaret "Peggy" Gonthier and Brother Leo Gonthier.

Services will be held at a later date after the pandemic and at the convenience of the family. Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium is assisting the family with arrangements. To view an online memorial, leave a message of condolence, or for more information please go to www.phaneuf.net.

The family would like to thank all of the nurses at Pleasant View Center for the care and compassion she received.

My condolences to the family. Nora was like a second mom to me and my sister kathy and such a great friend to our mother. Nora did her best to keep our mother on a straight road. I have very fond memories of square dancing and time at the st. Gelais house. We will miss her. Now she is in heaven reunited with dick and our parents too. May she rest in peace.

Nora was always one of my favorite residents. We had many conversations about being CNAs, she was so sweet to me, so spunky and always had a smile for everyone. She will be missed.
