Tribute & Message From The Family

Katherine Alexiou Kazakis, 93 passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the assisted living facility in Falls Church, VA where she had lived for many years before succumbing to complications from COVID.

Katherine was born in Manchester, the daughter of George and Mary Alexiou and one of six children. She was predeceased by her father and mother, George and Mary Alexiou as well as her brother, Arthur Alexiou and sister Beatrice Varkas. Katherine loved to play the piano and was an excellent pianist. She loved music. Family and friends were important to her and holidays were a great time to gather with everyone. Easter time and Christmas were big gatherings. Summers were spent in Rye at the Cablehouse with family. Many will remember the family reunions during the summers in Rye where we would celebrate all of the Greek traditions, including Greek dancing and feasting on lamb and spanakopita.

She is survived by her sister, Sophie Toher, 99; brother, Nicholas Alexiou, 94 and brother, James Alexiou, 88 along with her daughters, Alexandra and Stephanie Kazakis and her 3 granddaughters, Elise Taylor and Kathryn and Kristina Anwyll as well as many nieces and nephews.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org. Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Manchester, is in charge of arrangements. To view an Online Tribute, send condolences to the family, or for more information, visit www.phaneuf.net.
