CHRISTO STEFEKOS

LITTLETON, NH -- Christo "Chris "Stefekos 94 of Littleton passed away peacefully on Friday September 1, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Manchester, NH on August 26, 1923, the son of Evangelos J. and Vasiliki Stefekos. He attended Manchester public schools and Central High School. While in high school he enlisted in The New Hampshire Army National Guard. In February of 1941 he was inducted into The Federal service and went to Camp Hood Texas and Camp Blanding Florida for training. In October of 1944 he and the rest of Cannon Company 157th infantry regiment entered WWII. They were involved in battles in the Rhineland and Central Europe. He received several service awards while in combat most notably two bronze stars.

After WWII, he returned to New Hampshire where he spent several years in the Manchester area. He later moved north to Littleton to work with his Sister Sophia Foley and her husband Nick, operating the Northern Hotel and Premiere Café. Over the years he was also employed by B. Perini & Sons (during the construction of the Moore Dam), Lisbon Shoe Co., Norton Pike and Kelley's Auto Supply.

Chris was very active in local Fraternal organizations. He was a Charter member of the Littleton Elks Lodge 1803. He was a member of the Littleton Eagles Club, Littleton VFW Howard Shawney Post 816 and he was a 32-degree mason at the Burns Lodge of Littleton.

As part of his community involvement, Chris supported local youth sports. For many years Chris was the face of Littleton Youth Hockey. He worked at every level of the organization to make it successful. Serving as the President, chief fundraiser and state AHAUS representative. He organized the annual "Ski & Skate Sale" the major fund raiser for the group. During the hockey season, he could be found refereeing games at Remich Park. Not only was he active in local hockey events, he was an avid fan and attended the Men's D1 college Frozen Four hockey tournament for over 20 years. And in the summer, he found time to umpire Little League/ Babe Ruth baseball games.

Family members include his wife Helen Stefekos, Son, Evangelos (Lonnie) Stefekos, daughter-in-law, Ruthanne and two grandchildren, Alexandra and Nicholas Stefekos of Bedford, NH. He was pre-deceased by his five siblings; brother, Vasilios, sisters; Harecelea, Sophia, Irene and Helen.

SERVICES – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 7th at 10:00 AM at St. Rose of Lima Church with Rev. Mark Dollard as Celebrant. A Military Graveside service will be held in the NH State Veteran's Cemetery in Boscawen at 2:00 PM.
