Loving Father and Grandfather


John W. Symons, 89, of Stuart, FL and formerly of Manchester, NH and Ogdensburg, NY, died Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Treasure Coast Hospice following a period of declining health.

John was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and uncle who enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth A. Symons of Honeoye Falls, NY (and his wife Julie); two daughters, Debra H. Symons-Coleman of South Grafton, MA (and her husband Travis) and Sandra S. Fronsoe of Stuart, FL; his daughter-in-law Susan C. Symons of Mooresville, NC; his four grandsons Nicholas, Ashton, Jacob and Ryan; and his nephew John F. Symons of Sacramento, CA.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nancy A. (Loiselle) Symons, his eldest son Richard B. Symons of Mooresville, NC, and his brother Bruce R. Symons of Orlando, FL.

Mr. Symons was born on November 13, 1929 in Columbus, OH, the son of the late Kenneth R. and Gertrude E. (Walker) Symons. He was raised in Piqua, OH, graduating from Piqua Central High School and Northern Michigan University. John was a Korean War Veteran. He retired as a Major from the US Air Force having served from 1951 to 1971. Early in his military career, he was stationed at Grenier Air Force Base in Manchester, NH, where he met his wife Nancy. They traveled extensively during his military career residing in England as well as US Air Force Bases in Alabama, Montana, South Carolina, Michigan and California. Following his retirement from the military, he spent the remainder of his civilian career as a hospital administrator in Herkimer and Ogdensburg, NY, retiring in 1986. John and Nancy resided in Ogdensburg, NY for over 30 years and permanently moved to Stuart, FL in 2008. The couple enjoyed traveling and visiting their children and grandchildren. John was a member of various Rotary Clubs.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on May 11th, 2019 at Ste. Marie Parish, 278 Notre Dame Ave, Manchester, NH with interment to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 249 Canal St, Manchester, NH 03101.
