Rick Place

"Tricky" "Placekick" "Place"

Richard Wilson Dawson Jr. Place, age 52, passed away unexpectedly on August 28, 2020. He was born in Burlington, VT on November 5, 1967 to Shirley (Bushway) Dawson and Richard Dawson. Shirley would later marry Vincent Place, who would then adopt Rick. He was raised in a rustic cabin in Easton, NH with his brothers and sisters. He enjoyed cabin living and would go on to build a beautiful log home for his own family in Littleton, NH.

Richard was a 1986 graduate of Littleton High School, predominantly known for excelling in football, basketball and baseball. The successes he shared with his teammates on the field, court, and mound would lead to lifelong friendships.

Nothing filled him with more pride than his three children. He enjoyed watching his daughter Brookelle play field hockey, softball and cheerleading, rarely missing an event. He loved spending time outdoors with his sons, Joseph and Ethan, whether it was catching critters, sharing his favorite fishing spots, or shooting off live ammunition. Rick was blessed with numerous nights sitting around campfires, roasting hot dogs, looking at the stars, and telling stories.

Rick provided for his family by working in the construction field, running heavy equipment and working as a ski lift mechanic for many years. He took pride in working on the Zakim Bridge and the Big Dig in Boston as a member of Local 7 IronWorkers. After venturing out west to work on the oil fields, Rick was introduced to the wind turbine industry. He enjoyed construction of these giant wind turbines, as he was often eye level with the clouds.

Over the past year, Rick was the happiest he had ever been. This was due to the fact that he was able to work locally, alongside his youngest son, teaching him the ways of the wind turbine trade, as well as spending the weekends tinkering around the cabin with his boys, and catching up with friends, and family.

The Rick that we all loved would do anything to make people laugh. He was larger than life. Rick was a risk taker, fearless, fierce, strong, big hearted, and willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He seemed invincible...

Rick will profoundly be missed by his children Brookelle Place [Greg], Joseph Place [Gwen], Ethan Place [Christina]; his former wife and best friend Kariann Place; his girlfriend of many years and his companion on the road, Renee VanHouten and her son, Edward VanHouten; Father Richard and Marlene Dawson, Sisters: Tina Lemire [Randal] , Jaime Dawson, Susan Tomasetti [Lynn], Karen Place [Michael]; Brothers: Jon Place [Floraine], Raymond Place [Jerrilyn], Peter Place. Several aunts, uncles, in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

As Rick passed through the clouds, he was met with a warm and loving embrace by his Mom, Shirley and Dad, Vin.

After a recent visit out west to see his daughter, Brookelle, Rick wrote: "...time flies so don't hold off on the ones you love the most, time is now, don't let the chance to be together pass you bye."

Rick will be interred in the Kinsman Cemetery in Easton, NH where the family will hold a private graveside service. The family would like to invite friends to stop by Rick's home at 228 Osgood Farm Rd, Littleton, NH on Saturday, September 5th from 1-3 p.m. to share stories and memories with them.
