C. Richard Erskine, 72, of Manchester, NH, died January 11, 2017 at home.

Dick was born August 10, 1944 in Manchester, NH, a son of Harold & Marion (Backer) Erskine and had been a lifelong resident of this community.

Dick was a graduate of Manchester Central High School and the University of New Hampshire and received his Doctorate Degree from Vanderbilt University.

Dick began his career in education as a teacher at Keene High School. After 30 years at Southern New Hampshire University he retired as Associate Vice-President for Academic Affairs.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of The Vietnam Conflict.

Dick was an avid gardener and also enjoyed tennis, racquetball and playing his guitar.

He was a true gentleman who would grace any conversation with knowledge, wisdom, and an incredibly quick wit.

Dick very much loved his family and adored his grandchildren.

Family includes his wife of 47 years, Kathy (Blecatsis) Erskine; one daughter, Kate Erskine and her wife, Jolene McWhirter; one son, Greg Erskine and his wife, Heather; two grandchildren, Cora and Margo; one sister, Jane McCoy and her husband, Brian; one brother, Bruce Erskine and his wife, Helen; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be Monday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Cate & Johnson Funeral Home, 573 Pine Street, corner of Harrison Street in Manchester.

Funeral Service will be conducted on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Cate & Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute – Department of Head & Neck Oncology, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.

Cate & Johnson Funeral Service of Manchester is directing arrangements.
