John Blecatsis, 97, died February 19, 2015 at Villa Crest Health Care Center in Manchester, NH.

He was born November 10, 1917 in Manchester to Demetrios and Malamati (Paikos) Blecatsis and was a lifelong Manchester resident.John was a World War II veteran. He worked as an optician for many years at Granite State Optical prior to opening his own business, Lincoln Park Opticians.

John was a past president of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. He was an avid tennis player and photographer, however family was at the center of his life.

John was pre-deceased in 2010 by his wife of 66 years, Effie Koyiades Blecatsis.

Family includes three daughters, Kathryn Erskine (C. Richard), Melanie Brown (Mark), and Joan Krohn (Richard Nichols); seven grandchildren, Kate Erskine (Jolene McWhirter), Gregory Erskine, Christopher Brown (Robyn), Emily Brown, Cynthia Krohn, Matthew Krohn (Suzanne), and Nicholas Krohn; as well as six great grandchildren, Cora & Margo Erskine-McWhirter, John & Alice Brown, and Daphne & Lauren Krohn, and a nephew, Richard Blecatsis.

Family wishes to thank all at Villa Crest Nursing and Retirement Center, Visiting Angels and Amedisys Hospice for their outstanding and compassionate care for our Dad.

Calling hours will be Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Cate & Johnson Funeral Home, 573 Pine Street, corner of Harrison Street in Manchester. A Trisagion Prayer Service will be offered at 6:00 pm in Cate & Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:00 am at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 111 Island Pond Road. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester.
